Machine Operator – Operations Specialist II

Position Summary: The primary responsibility of a Machine Operator is to ensure efficient processing of material while maintaining customer specifications and compliance with company safety standards. Assist in moving/transporting material to and from designated storage areas.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Read and understand customer orders and internal order details
  • Read and understand procedural documents to ensure accurate processing requirements
  • Operate machinery by using skills associated with levers, buttons, calipers, and hand tools
  • Use electronic ERP system to complete paperwork and verify shipping information
  • Actively participate in training events such as; LEAN, compliance, safety, ISO and general procedure/process events
  • Assist in other departments as necessary, including; skid building, order pulling, truck loading and general material handling
  • Wear appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment)< /span>
  • Ensures that all required paperwork is completed in a timely manner
  • Operates at least 2 processing lines and directs the activities of fellow team members on the line, as well as those acting in a support function to the line
  • Utilizes LEAN skills and methodologies and participates actively in LEAN events
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement of productivity and safety
  • Using knowledge of the quality and spec requirements of OFR customers, exercises sound judgement regarding product quality coming off the lines
  • Motivates and leads fellow team members using effective coaching skills
  • Participates in company training on safety, hazard communication, blood-borne pathogens and accident reporting

Qualifications Required:

Education:

  • High school graduate or GED preferred but not required

Experience:

  • At least 6 months of experience working in a warehouse and/or manufacturing environment operating equipment/machinery
  • Previous experience using a forklift and overhead crane preferred

Job Competencies:

  • Ability to read and comprehend work orders, directions, and safety and procedure manuals
  • Effective communication skills required to work with sales department to meet specific customer requirements or to verify quality acceptance from customers
  • Follows directions and uses common sense in determining causes of late delivery
  • Knowledge of various hand tools, measuring and guiding devices
  • Knowledge of gauges, dials, pedals, and other indicators on machinery
  • Able to perform basic math, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (using knowledge of the structure and content of the English language) required to complete shipping tickets and alert appropriate personnel of equipment problems and safety/quality issues
  • Well organized to conduct the activities of team members to achieve maximum productivity

Physical Demands:

  • Infrequent lifting of weight up to 50 pounds from floor to waist level
  • Carrying up to 50 pounds at waist level for distance no greater than 5 feet on a semi-frequent basis
  • Ability to use a rotating motion of shoulder to toss items weighing up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis
  • Must be able to bend, squat and/or crouch down using knee and hip movement frequently
  • Frequent torso movement involving twisting, bending, and/or stretching
  • Frequent reaching and stretching of arms below and above shoulder level
  • Frequent head and neck motion in looking up, down and from side to side
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for up to 8 hours per day
  • Using full body motion to climb in and out of forklifts
  • Ability to push and pull weight of up to 30 pounds at chest level
  • Utilize manual dexterity of arms, elbows, wrists and fingers
  • Ability to visually interpret multiple shades of colors
  • Must be able to hear, speak and interpret sounds

Work Environment:

  • Work environment contains moving mechanical parts and is consistent with the standard manufacturing and/or warehousing environments
  • Work may be performed near moderate to continuous loud noise
